What is reflexology?

Reflexology uses specific techniques of massage and manipulation of the hands or feet to stimulate the body’s natural healing responses and to promote a sense of general wellbeing.

Reflexologists believe that there are specific reflex points in the hands and feet which correspond to all organs, glands, and parts of the body.

Stimulating these reflex areas unblocks nerve impulses and improves blood circulation to leave you feeling physically relaxed and re-energized.

Reflexology treatments also calm and relax the mind thereby reducing stress and anxiety.

You can also use reflexology in conjunction with medicine and drugs as a natural method of pain relief and healing.

Reflex zones

Reflexology is sometimes referred to as “Zone therapy”.

The interactive image below coutesy of the Association of Reflexologists shows how the body is mapped on the feet.

During reflexology I use a walking finger and thumb techinque on these reflex zones, working certain areas more depending on your particular ailment.

However, I treat all reflex points on your feet to unblock neural pathways and stimulate improved circulation because reflexology works not only on certain organs and glands but also on the body as a whole.

Of course, if you have any comments or questions on reflex zones in particular or reflexology in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Before your treatment begins

Each standard treatment lasts approximately one hour. You may wish to extend this to 90 minutes or to combine reflexology with reiki.

At your initial consultation, I will discuss with you your medical history, your lifestyle, diet and how you are feeling physically and emotionally so that I can tailor the treatment to your individual needs.

If you are a returning client, I will ask you about any changes to your lifestyle or medication since your last visit. I will also confirm any special requests you may have made on your online booking.

Please be assured that I work to the highest standards of confidentiality and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

During your treatment

You will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment except for your shoes and socks which you will remove before relaxing back on a fully adjustable treatment couch.

On request, I will cover you with a soft blanket before gently cleaning your feet and beginning the treatment.

I will apply subtle pressure with my thumbs and fingers to all parts of your feet noting any problem areas.

You need not worry about the appearance of your feet. In fact, it helps me to understand more about your current health and wellbeing.

The manipulation of your feet is not ticklish and is usually very pleasant and extremely relaxing.

It is possible that you might occasionally feel some slight and fleeting discomfort as I stimulate blood circulation and unblock nerve endings in your feet.

Please don’t feel concerned if this happens. This is perfectly normal and is part of the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

At the end of your treatment

At the end of the treatment, whilst you are relaxing on the couch, I will provide you with a chilled bottle of mineral water to help flush out toxins that may be released during your reflexology session.

You will also have the opportunity to talk with me about the treatment you have received and discuss aftercare advice.

I will give you plenty of time after the treatment to gather your thoughts and your belongings so that you leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and rebalanced.

Conditions that reflexology helps to alleviate

Reflexology works on the whole body by stimulating your lymphatic system, rebalancing your hormones, boosting your immune system, improving your sleep, and flushing toxics.

It also provides relief from stress , anxiety and low mood.

My clients tell me that not only do they feel more relaxed and energetic, they have experienced improvements in the following conditions:

Please bear in mind that reflexolgists do not diagnose or prescribe, nor do we specifically treat particular medical conditions.

However, used alongside conventional medical treatment, reflexology can help to mitigate the effects of certain disorders and promote general wellbeing.
